2009 Tourney A Success!
It was a beautiful day for Pond Hockey as South Stormont hosted the 5th Annual Pond Hockey Tournament at Farran Park on February 14. A winter cold snap the day before the event lead to ideal conditions. "The ice was in great shape, surely the best we've ever had," explained committee chair Tim Cryderman. "Once again we were able to host a successful tournament and raise some money and awareness for our charity". With approximately $2,000 raised for Seaway Valley Habitat for Humanity, the tournament has now raised over $11,000 for a variety of local charities since it's inception in 2005.
There was great hockey action all day long with close finishes in all three divisions. Future Office Products defended their title for a third time as they defeated Fusion Grill 13-12 in a rematch of the 2007 Open Division Final. First time participants The Big Guns defeated defending Champions Grumpy's Girls in the Women's Final in a well played 14-11 victory, and the defending Champions Metcalfe Rams lost a close game to the Lost Village Anglers in the Recreation Division.
